Anticipating “disturbance” after the murder of a 16-year-old Bajrang Dal activist here on Sunday evening, the Karimganj district administration in Assam has imposed Section 144 in parts of the district.
One Animul Haque has been arrested in connection with the murder of Sambhu Koiri, who was returning home from a three-day Bajrang Dal training camp in the neighbouring Hailakandi district. According to a police officer, there had been an earlier personal fight between the accused and the victim. The incident took place in the district’s Lowairpoa, around 50 km from Karimganj town.
On Monday evening, a prohibitory order was issued from the Office of the Karimganj Deputy Commissioner, ordering the closure of Lowairpoa Bazar until further orders and prohibiting processions, rallies, dharnas, sloganeering, distribution of pamphlets, and banners and posters “attracting breach of public peace and tranquility” in the district in connection with the incident.
