The body of a 10-year-old boy was found hanging at MP Rajdeep Roy’s house in Assam’s Silchar on Saturday. The boy was the son of a domestic worker at the MP’s residence, and had been living in the house along with his family.
Cachar district’s Additional Superintendent of Police, Subrata Sen, told PTI that the body was found with a cloth wrapped around the neck.
“The body was sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for postmortem examination. We are investigating the matter,” Sen said.
MP Roy told reporters that the boy’s mother and her two children had been living in his house for the past three years.
“They have been with us for the last three years. There’s a second-floor two-bedroom apartment where they stay. They are a three-member family. We were fond of the boy and I had gotten him admitted to school. The mother ate with the family in the afternoon, and went out with the girl. When they came back in around 40 minutes, they found the door locked from within, and that is when they called everyone,” he said.
Roy, the BJP MP from Silchar, said he was at the party office when the body was found. “An acquaintance told me there was an emergency and that I needed to go home… Once I got home, I assessed the situation and immediately called the SP, Silchar and asked him to conduct a proper investigation,” he said.
