Centre extends ban on ULFA for 5 more years | North East India News

The Centre on Monday extended the ban on the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) for five years, citing continued involvement in criminal activities and extortion and pursuing an objective of secession from India.

The notification states that this declaration extends to all its factions, wings and frontal organisations. The ULFA was first declared an unlawful organization in 1990 and has been extended periodically. In December 2023, ULFA’s pro-talks faction signed a pact with the Centre and the Assam state, agreeing to shun violence, disband the organisation.
