NE was distant for earlier govts, we served with dedication to bring it near: PM Modi | North East India News

Taking a jibe at Opposition parties, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that the Northeast was “distant for earlier governments”, while the BJP “served with dedication to bring it near.

The Prime Minister flew into Guwahati on Friday on a day-long trip where he dedicated Rs 14,300-crore worth of development projects on the first day of the state’s spring festival ‘Rongali Bihu’.

Addressing the inaugural event in Guwahati, the Prime Minister said: “Whenever I talk about the development of the country that has been done in the last 9 years, some people get disturbed because they are not getting the credit for growth… The previous govt was hungry for credit.”

He was received at the airport by Governor Gulab Chand Kataria and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, before departing for the first programme of the day at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Guwahati at Changsari in Kamrup (Rural) district.

He will dedicate the Rs 1,123 crore medical facility, the first AIIMS in the North East, to the nation and will also virtually inaugurate three medical colleges at Nalbari, Nagaon and Kokrajhar.
